What changed at Amazon
According to Adweek, Amazon cut Associates commission rates by as much as 50% for some publishers and ended milestone bonuses. The changes started in Asia-Pacific in late 2025 and reached the U.S. around March 9, 2026, without a public announcement. Amazon also requires new accounts to make 3 qualifying sales within 180 days.
Ways to depend less on one company
- Other stores: eBay and Bookshop.org run their own programs for physical products and books.
- Print on demand and shops: Printful, Printify and Shopify pay when people you refer start selling.
- Recurring software commissions: many creator tools pay a share of every monthly bill, often for 12 months or longer, so one referral can pay more than once.
Keep your Amazon links if they still work for you. The goal is to have more than one source, so a single company's change doesn't wipe out your income.
